Its been a very dry winter here in Sonoma. There was no rain in December and there has been an utter lack of remorse from the rain clouds this January.
Temperatures have consistently dropped as night fades over the Valley, but the condensation that we require for growing beautiful, fruitful produce is just not here.
Luckily, its the Winter right now and the cover crop is all I have to really worry about. However, its the weather working in conjunction with the cover crop that will make my field bountiful come this Spring.
What seems like forever away in the distance is actually just a few short months come near. Again, its all a big cycle. The weather comes and goes, the creek fills, alluvial particles are left behind and the duration of sunlight forever shifts. We live and die by the weather.
Beginning on Wednesday evening there is an expected deluge. I don’t expect it to be of “The Great Flood” in proportions, but I do hope it helps fill the coffers of local reservoirs.
Kristian Pickles is on a well system. The well, to the best of my understanding is attached to an underground aquifer some 100 + feet below surface. I imagine its a beautiful rock palace, with swimming nymphs, sparkling sapphires and the farming gods extending “well wishes” to the impending crop.
It would be pretty neat, if only true.
